After waiting a month to hear from a freelance editor, and making changes accordingly, I just sent off the final proof for my novel Nobody’s Heroes. I don’t have a cover yet or a publication date, but this is an independent press that I have paid to publish my novel later this year or early next year. They are professional and publish approximately 200 books a year in England, India, and the United States.
Nobody’s Heroes is the story of Reuben Ayers, a young African American man in Harlem in the 19teens. He is recruited by political parties to spy on the African American regiment out of New York sent to France in World War I. He struggles with his perfidy as he gets to know people in the regiment, in particular James Europe, real life bandleader and musician who transfigured the New York musical scene before the war.
With exciting war scenes and calculated timelines, Nobody’s Heroes is sure to please readers of the likes of Barry Unsworth, Michael Shaara, and Pearl S. Buck.
